Basic Instinct 2 Bombs
Paul Verhoeven - director of the original Basic Instinct - is blaming the sequel's flop on Conservatives in government. His actual words were, "Anything that is erotic has been banned in the United States".
Um, right. I have 2 different theories on why this movie bombed.
1. Sharon Stone is old. No longer a hottie, she's a stroked-out old bitch who has done nothing but complain about how how middle aged women are treated in the US film industry for months. Most Americans don't want to hear a millionaire, who's making millions more on this film, complain about how she's being treated at work. They are paying you millions - deal with it.
2. Its a sequel. There probably aren't 10 sequels (ever) that have made more money than their original. Why should this film be any different.
