The EU Hates Porn
The Euro-Weenies are acting stupid again - wanting to study the sexual behavior of men to find out why we spend money on pornography. That sounds like just the thing a government should get involved in eh?
The report, drawn up by the Parliament’s Committee on Women’s Rights and Equal Opportunities, points out that 70% of the £252 million EU citizens spent on the Internet in 2001 went to porn sites. That stat is more a reflection on the porn industry's early adoption of the web as a true business medium, instead of just someplace to put up brochure-like sites as did a vast majority of companies up until only a few years ago - porn is easily one of the most mature industries on the web.
"Pornography is often sexist, with stereotyped gender roles and a conservative, not to mention completely erroneous, view of women’s and men’s sexuality" it goes on.Yes, lets just bring 70% of the EU internet economy to a halt. Brilliant!
The draft report’s recommendations, which will be put to the European Parliament later this year, include a call to end to “sexist advertising”, and a ban on the promotion of pornography and prostitution in hotels.
The report also demands a ban on sex businesses being quoted on the stock exchange in any EU country.
The recommendations also state: "The European Parliament believes that studies should be undertaken to examine the reasons behind the sexual behaviour of men, both at national and EU level, and calls on the member states and the European Commission to proceed on this research. The results of these studies can contribute to establishing an appropriate sexual education programme in all member states."And then let the re-education of men proceed. I'll be shocked if any of this crap ever sees the light of day as real policy/law in the EU, but that its even being proposed is crazy.
